The Best Family Days Out Around Cardigan This Easter

One of the things we get asked the most by visitors to us here at Troedyrhiw Holiday Cottages has to be “what can we do with the kids?”. Obviously we have beaches in abundance, but that might not suit everyone (hard to believe, I know!), and the weather doesn’t always play ball - this is Wales after all! So, now you’ve booked your Easter break to this beautiful part of the world, what else is there?

Walkers on the coast path at Mwnt

Easter is the perfect time to get back into the outside after the long cold and wet days of winter, and enjoy the fresh air making memories with the family, and filling up the photo album. Cardigan, with its stunning coastline, charming town centre, and abundance of family-friendly attractions, offers plenty of ways to spend a fun-filled day together. Whether you’re after adventure, nature, or a bit of local culture, there’s something for everyone.

1. Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park

Just a short drive from the town centre, this family-run farm park is a favourite for locals and visitors alike. Children can meet friendly farm animals, enjoy the play areas, and take in breathtaking views of Cardigan Island. If you’re lucky, you might even spot seals basking on the rocks below. Pack a picnic or enjoy a bite at the café overlooking the sea.

2. Mwnt Beach

A hidden gem along the Ceredigion coast, and our personal favourite spot for a dip or a paddle, Mwnt is perfect for families who love the beach but prefer somewhere quieter. The sheltered cove is ideal for sandcastle building, paddling, and spotting dolphins from the headland. The small white church overlooking the bay adds charm to the view and is a beautiful example of a 13th century Medieval sailors ‘Chapel of Ease’.

3. Cilgerran Castle

Step back in time with a visit to this dramatic 13th-century fortress perched above the Teifi Gorge. Kids will love exploring the towers and imagining life as a medieval knight or princess. The surrounding woodland walks are perfect for an Easter stroll, and the nearby village of Cilgerran has a lovely café for a post-adventure treat.

4. Welsh Wildlife Centre

Located just outside Cardigan, this award-winning nature reserve is a must for families who love the outdoors. Wander along scenic trails, spot otters and kingfishers, or even water buffalo, and enjoy hands-on activities in the visitor centre. The Glasshouse Café serves delicious local food, and there’s plenty of space for kids to run around and explore.

5. Poppit Sands

For a classic seaside day out, head to Poppit Sands. This wide, sandy beach is perfect for kite flying, beach games, and a bracing Easter dip if you’re feeling brave! There’s a lifeguard on duty during busy periods, and the dunes behind the beach are great for exploring. Don’t forget to grab an ice cream from the beach café Crwst, well known in these parts for their donuts (just saying!).

6. Cardigan Town Easter Trail

Many local businesses in Cardigan take part in Easter-themed events, from treasure hunts to craft workshops. Keep an eye out for posters around town or check community pages for details. It’s a great way to explore the town, support local shops, and keep the kids entertained.

7. Adventure Beyond

If your family loves a bit of excitement, try an outdoor adventure with Adventure Beyond. They offer kayaking, coasteering, and paddleboarding sessions suitable for families. It’s a fantastic way to see the coastline from a new perspective and create unforgettable Easter memories.

Final Thoughts
Cardigan and its surrounding area are bursting with family-friendly activities this Easter. Whether you’re exploring castles, meeting farm animals, or enjoying the beach, there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of the holiday together. Pack your wellies, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready for a wonderful Easter in West Wales, and then when your day is done and the kids are all tired out, head back to your cottage and relax in front of the cosy woodburners or take a stroll around the grounds and visit our animals if there is any energy left!
